MESA, Ariz. (Feb. 12, 2019) – On Saturday, Feb. 16, experience a world of art and creative thinking at the i.d.e.a. Museum for free as part of the 6th Annual Southwest Maker Fest. The maker festival, featuring hands-on creative experiences and entertainment, takes place in Downtown Mesa.

Visitors coming to the i.d.e.a. Museum during Southwest Maker Fest have the opportunity to step into a wild adventure at spring exhibit, Junkyard Jungle. Special maker activities also will take place in and around the museum.

When: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019

Where: i.d.e.a. Museum, 150 W. Pepper Place, Mesa, AZ

Featured activities at the i.d.e.a. Museum: 

  • New activity – Art-Reach for ages 3 – 8 – focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) concepts using creative tools. Children will be making magnetic slime, rice art and more from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Helen’s Hope Chest and Child Crisis Arizona also will be on hand during Art-Reach to educate families attending about resources and services offered.
  • Mesa Recycles will be in front of the museum between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors will be able to take the “Keep Our Planet Blooming” pledge and take home some Earth flower seed paper.

The museum’s spring exhibition is sponsored by Mesa Recycles, POGO Pass, the City of Mesa, the i.d.e.a. Museum Board of Directors, Inc.; and the Arizona Commission on the Arts, which receives support from the state of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional program support provided by The Steele Foundation (Artful Tales Experience) and Wells Fargo Foundation (Access for All).
