Bring grandma and/or grandpa to the i.d.e.a. Museum on Sunday, Sept. 8, for a little creative fun during Grandparents Day. In celebration of this special day, the i.d.e.a. Museum will offer grandparents free admission.

Additionally, during Grandparents Day, the museum will have a special story time book and art studio activity. At 1 p.m., we’ll read “Skyfishing” by Gideon Sterer then make a “litterfish” made with recycled materials.

While at the museum, check out the museum’s current exhibition, Roadside USA, which offers visitors an adventure through offbeat and popular family vacation destinations and roadside attractions. It features games, trivia and hands-on activities focused on the summer road trip.

Activities for children of all ages include:

  • Driving a motor home (and changing its tire)
  • Weaving via loom activity
  • Crafting a travel journal and making maps
  • Creating magnetic license plates and vacation postcards
  • Placing yourself in a surfboard/vacation scene via green screen

Roadside USA – which runs through Sept. 8, 2019 – is sponsored by POGO Pass, the City of Mesa, the i.d.e.a. Museum Foundation, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts, which receives support from the state of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts. Other financial contributions come from Wells Fargo Foundation and Season for Sharing.

Wells Fargo Foundation and Season for Sharing support the museum’s Access for All fund, which helps pay for programs such as school field trips and free days at the museum.

Regular museum admission is $9 for ages 1 and up; free for members. Memberships start at $55.
