Our museum exterior is just as creative and inspiring as what’s found on the inside! Enjoy our multiple public art projects before entering or as you stroll through Downtown Mesa.

“Saugo's Sonoran Serenade” Mural by Yukue
  • Location: On Robson St
  • Saugo sits on her cloud bidding the day farewell with her flute song. She thanks the Land for everything as the sky's colors melt into clouds and a setting Sun to the West.
“What’s the Big Idea” Mural by Luster Kaboom (aka Dave Quan)
  • Location: idea Museum’s parking lot
  • The mural invites visitors to experience a whimsical world filled with colorful characters, fantastical creatures and dreamlike landscapes brought to life in Kaboom’s signature style.
“Bright Color Arches With Flowers” Mural by Kyllan Maney
  • Location: On corner of Robson St and Pepper Pl
  •  “Inspiration of Light and Color” implies a place of fun and happiness exploring the interplay of space, play, time and observation. Maney created these ideas with this in mind. The possibilities of this interplay are endless and up to children's vast imagination. Bright color archways, bold happy color and fun playful dots all intertwine in this mural. The composition of forms are created in a way to draw people who are driving by the museum as well as be a fun playful way for people to landmark the museum from down the street.
Giant Pinwheels by Spectacle Works
  • Located: idea Museum entrance
  • Three towering, larger-than-life pinwheels stand proudly in front of the museum! Guests of all ages can bring them to life with a simple turn of a lightweight hand-held wheel—easy enough for even little hands to spin. As night falls, the magic continues, with each pinwheel lighting up thanks to a solar charger at the top.
